I found this recipe on Pinterest, and thought it would be fun to make for Christmas.
Ingredients and supplies include mini candy canes, white chocolate chips, lollipop sticks, and assorted sprinkles.
The candy canes are arranged in pairs on a wax-lined cookie sheet to form heart shapes around the lollipop sticks.
They are baked for 3 minutes at 350 degrees. Then while still hot, the tops and bottoms of the hearts are pinched against the sticks. I used the backs of two spoons to do that. The original recipe called for the sides to be shaped outward as well, but I found it really hard to do that without destroying the edges completely, so I left my hearts fairly narrow.
I also found that the candy canes re-harden very quickly upon removing them from the oven, so it’s best to complete this step with just 5 or 6 pops at a time.
Once the candy canes have cooled completely, white chocolate chips are melted and spooned into the interior space. This nicely covers any ugly edges created during the pinching process.
Before the chocolate cools completely, sprinkles are added.
Overall, these pops didn’t take much time, but working to reshape the heated candy canes was a bit tricky and I think they’d have turned out a bit prettier with some more practice! –A fun Christmas treat nonetheless, and one that could easily be adapted for Valentine’s Day as well.
I wish you and your family a great Christmas!
